The Strategy Communication program combines both academic knowledge of fundamental theories, concepts, and applications of strategic communication and an overview of practices in communication management: research design, planning, implementation and evaluation. Strategic communication is one of the foundations for the success of organizations and corporations across all industries, both in the for-profit and the non-profit space. It is also an important part of politics, social change, and health care innovation. Students enhance their abilities to advantageously influence and further an organization’s mission through communication – making them invaluable in virtually any business. Students’ expertise are broadly applicable to roles that require them to develop communication strategies, create meaningful messaging for different target audiences, and advise company leadership in making sound decisions when communicating with their employees, the public, investors, and other stakeholders.
This programme is widely taught as full time, part-time, distance or sandwich at most levels.
Subject Specific Requirements
Prior qualification in English Literature is an advantage.
WASSCE Entry requirements
Core: Credit passes (C6) in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science & Social Studies Electives: Credit passes (C6) in any three elective subjects
American High School Grade 12
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in Ghana must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0 *Admissions will be to Level 100.
GCE (Cambridge) – ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels
Applicants must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels. In addition, they must have at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level. *Most universities in Ghana welcome applications from students who follow the IB Diploma Programme and meet the following college requirements. Admissions will be to Level 100.
Applicants must have at least Grade 4 in any Three (3) HL subjects. In addition, they must have at least Grade 4 in English Language/Literature (SL) and Mathematics (SL).
• Must be, at least, 25 years by (*certain date). • Should have a minimum of GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or an equivalent qualification. • Must pass a University Entrance Exam or aptitude test in Math and English.
Masters (MPhil, MA, MSc) • A good first degree (at least a second class lower division) in a relevant field of study at any recognised University.
Normally a Master’s degree with research in the relevant field will be required for admission to this programme. Where an applicant is judged to have any deficiency, this may be remedied by requiring the applicant to make up as appropriate either by course work or mini-project or both.
Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: quizzes/interim/mid-semester tests, and project works completed throughout the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between universities, subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Most degree projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation during your final year of study.
